Renew UCR Registration

UCR deadline

When is the 2027 UCR renewal due?

2027 UCR registration opens on October 1, 2026 and is due by December 31, 2026. States can begin enforcing 2027 registration on January 1, 2027. UCR is annual, so every interstate carrier, broker, and freight forwarder renews it each year.

Key UCR dates for 2027

  • October 1, 2026: 2027 registration opens and 2027 fees take effect
  • December 31, 2026: 2027 registration is due
  • January 1, 2027: states can begin enforcement of 2027 registration
  • December 31, 2027: 2027 registration expires

Do you have to renew UCR every year?

Yes. UCR covers one calendar year and does not carry over. Each year you operate in interstate commerce needs its own registration and fee, even if nothing about your fleet changed. Renew as soon as registration opens on October 1 so you are covered on January 1.

What happens if you miss the UCR deadline?

The UCR Plan does not add a late fee, but operating unregistered is a violation. Participating states enforce UCR at roadside inspections, at ports of entry, and in audits. Fines are set by each state and vary widely, and an unregistered carrier can be cited more than once.

If you missed the deadline, file as soon as you can. The price for a registration year is the same whether you file in October or in March.

Can you file UCR for a past year?

Yes. If you operated interstate in a year you did not register, you can still file that year. The applicable UCR Plan fee may differ by year, and your total filing price is shown before you pay. When you look up your USDOT number, the filing flow shows which years are unregistered.
